ALL NIPPON AIRWAYS (NH/ANA) have announced that they will be bringing a number of their stored Pratt & Whitney 4000 powered Boeing 777’s back in to service in the coming months. The aircraft were (along with a number of other operators’ PW powered examples) grounded in February 2021 following some well-publicised operational events involving the engines’ fan blades (JAPAN AIRLINES in late 2020, and UNITED AIRLINES in early 2021).
The return to service is dependent on various modifications being done to the engines, and ANA now say these have been done thus allowing the aircraft to fly again. It’s not yet clear exactly how many will retrurn and for how long.
JAPAN AIRLINES (JL/JAL) have disposed of much of their PW fleet but there are still a number in Japan. Currently there has been no indication that these will also be reactivated.
JAPAN AIRLINES (JL/JAL) have disposed of B737-846 JA326J (msn 35355). The aircraft has been painted white and reregistered as T7-304. It departed Tokyo (HND) on 5-MAR-2022. It ferried to Seoul (ICN) and then on to Almaty (ALA).
Last service with JAL was on 29-OCT-2021 as [JAL142] from Aomori (AOJ) to Tokyo (HND).
It was initially reported as being ex-JA324J (msn 35353) but as of today (10-MAR-2022) that aircraft is still at Haneda. It too is painted all white. Its last service with JAL was on 08-OCT-2021 as [JAL462] from Tokushima (TKS) to Tokyo (HND).
ALL NIPPON AIRWAYS (NH/ANA) have announced the launch of a new ‘lower cost’ airline. They will be rebranding their current AIR JAPAN operation and it will now be called AIRJAPAN. The new airline will use existing ANA B787-8s to operate medium-range international flights. You can read a bit more about it here.
